Re: NO ICS :(
So I contacted Acer support again today. I was told to do a hard reset on my device and then check for updates.
I'm pretty scared to do that because I don't want to lose my important data. I don't trust backups (made in Honeycomb) to restore properly (in ICS.) Does anybody know if this works well? I have Titanium Backup Pro, but I don't know how to tell if my app data has been saved. That's the most important thing to me. Am I worrying too much? - 05-22-2012, 09:31 PM #31

Re: NO ICS :(
Thanks for the info. Sorry you have so much on your tablet already. I just don't understand how this mess happened and why Acer kept telling me I would get it within a week...every time I called.
You are right at least I don' t have much on it. Does a hard reset fix the issue? Will it update then? Has anyone tried it yet? - 05-23-2012, 09:22 PM #34
Re: NO ICS :(
Have you tried it yet? I was under the impression that Titanium Backup only did a complete backup if your phone/tablet was rooted (i.e., it will save your apps but not their data if you're stock), but admittedly, with the way apps are updated these days, I could be wrong. Also, I've never tried to restore a backup from Honeycomb to ICS, so I can't help you there.
PookaLady, I don't know if the hard reset will prompt the ICS update, but since you don't have much info on your tab, any chance you could be the guinea pig and give it a shot?

Re: NO ICS :(
Update. Hardware reset did not work. There was still no OTA update after resetting. So I think my only option is to install a gen1 ROM. I downloaded a ROM off the Internet and put it on my sdcard and tried to flash the tablet. After the green android comes up and it shows the installation bar, something happens about halfway through and the android gets an exclamation point on his tummy. So the update is not working for me. I'll try to get a different ROM and try it again.

Re: NO ICS :(
Okay, so I was the guinea pig. I hard reset back to factory settings. Still no updates. Then I downgraded my ROM to GEN1. I got it from this page:
This time it seemed to go smoothly installing this ROM.
But guess what? Still no updates! I don't know what to do now. (Throws in towel.) What's left to try? - 05-24-2012, 06:51 AM #38
The backup didn't work. I ended up losing almost everything and all my pictures. At least I got most of my notes back, but they're only up to date as of a week ago. And I still can't upgrade to ice cream sandwich. I ran a full manual backup before i started. I don't know what went wrong.

Dude, your situation stinks! This is a long shot, but it worked for my old Droid Incredible. Try manually setting your system date to a year ahead. The system may then realize it's way late in updating, and then trigger the update. Like I said, a long shot ...

Here's how I got mine to update: the ota didn't work for me either, so I thought it was because I was rooted. I did a factory reset and still had no ota. I did however lose everything but I had movies songs and pics either on my SD card or free 50gb box drive (thanks box! lol). Then in desperation I downloaded and installed the leaked ICS which brought me to 4.0. Once this was done the OTA kicked in and downloaded the official 4.0.3 update. Hope this helps

Re: NO ICS :(
Willie in Philly here and mine still has not updated as well. I do also have the A500 which updated easily. Comparing the A500 and the A100, the 500 seems much faster and vitually no lag at all. Now that I've had time to compare I can see my A100 may have been laggy all along. I'm just guessing but maybe there is something wrong with it since it never update over the last few weeks and the only thing that did happen was the "wireless signal weak message" a couple of times when I manually checked for updates. I may try AIRBORNE MP's method this weekend to try to update.
(I also recomend getting the A500 from Secondipity for cheap as it's a great tablet, but the only need it doesn't fill well is as a book reader becuase of the size.) - 05-26-2012, 12:54 AM #43
Thanks, but I can't seem to find a good copy of ics.
I found out what happened with my backup though.
Colornotes is a program I use all the time to keep my notes in. I have a bad memory so I have lots of notes. For some reason I copied all the files that were on the internal sdcard to my computer, but every time it got to a folder with the word colornote in it, the copy process would abort without any type of warning. So when I came back I thought it was done. That's what happened to my manual backup. I still can't even copy anything manually or one file at a time to backup colornotes. The copy process just stops.
The titanium backup didn't backup all my personal files. Only apps and some data. - 05-26-2012, 12:43 PM #44
Re: NO ICS :(
Sorry I lost track of this discussion.I accidently deleted my bookmarks.Good one, huh? I deinitely am a newbie to tabs and not techsavvy for sure.
So sorry you lost all yourdata and still no ics.I did enter a question on one of the android forums for acer a100 about factory reset and ics. A helpful person jumped on there and let me know they had already tried that and it did not work.
Does anyone know if Acer ever puts the updates on their Acer site ?
I know Amazon does this on their site for their Kindle ereaders and their Kindle Fire tablets.
They do it because not everyone has wifi at home and sometimes people want the update quicker, I guess.
Anyway, does acer do this too? Ihave asked this question before, somewhere but did not receive a reply before I wiped out my bookmarks.grrrr.Last edited by PookaLady; 05-26-2012 at 12:44 PM. Reason: needed to add another line

Well I'm posting from ics now. I do like it better but it stinks that I tried the hardware reset Acer told me to do and lost all my stuff in the process. Simply flashing to ics doesn't delete any of your data it seems. So I lost a lot of stuff for no reason at all. Oh well, nothing I can do about it now.
The rom and instructions I used are at this page:

Re: NO ICS :(
Bummer about losing all of your data and pics, but congrats on finally getting ICS. Hopefully it's worth all of the trouble you had to go through.

Thanks! I don't know if it was worth it. I still can't remember all the files I lost. But at least I got ics as a consolation prize. lol. I am happy a few annoying issues got fixed in ics. Browsing the web is going to be nicer.
Thanks for sticking around after you got your ics. - 05-30-2012, 03:27 PM #48

Re: NO ICS :(
Same thing happened with my A500 after the ICS update, which resolved after a reboot. Didn't notice it with my A100, but if you haven't already tried it, power down and power up again.
The other thing to try is to go to the Manage Apps part of Settings and clear the cache for culprit programs like the Browser, Facebook, etc. But clear only the cache, don't clear the data from these apps.
