Auto Screen Rotation

I've read in the Amazon Developers FAQ's that the Fire doesn't have a gyro but does have accelerometer(s). I'm not familiar with how auto rotation works in a tablet so this may be a stupid question, but does the Fire have auto-rotation based on motion or is a gyro required for this? In the demo videos I only see rotation when a program is opened or an Amazon employee touches the screen.

Sorry if this has already been discussed but I couldn't find it in my search.

Every phone/tablet I can think of use accelerators.... Gryros are larger and have to many moving parts.... To expensive... The AKF should auto rotate just fine and work with games were you tilt the device.

Thanks - didn't know if MEMS gyro's were in use in tablets yet. These are typically on a silicon chip and are available.

I always turn off auto-rotate when using a reader anyway.
