App access to Kindle

Can a Kindle app access the digital content (books/movies) on a Kindle Fire? i.e. does an application know which books/movies you have in your libraries, and conversely can it link you to them?

In theory, there could be an app out there that could do that. Especially if you are loading apps that are not part of the Google or Amazon store (ie. downloading apks from random websites).

When you get an app from the store, it will list the permissions. This is one of those things that some people are real zealots about, but I guess someone has to keep an eye on that. But you will know based on the permissions listed.

All bets are off if you don't download the app from a known source.
