I got the same problem too! Htc One X when I was downloading psx game legend of lagaia suddenly it download itself.
i just started having the same problem a few minutes ago. galaxy nexus running cm10.0
Go to the download manager -> click on the facebook download -> send it to trash. FIXED!

Where do I find my Download Manager? I have an app called Downloads, but there is no Facebook in there.

Try this: go to settings>applications>manage applications. then switch to the "all" tab. find download manager and force stop it. You might have to restart phone.Quote:

Application > Downloads> Other Downloads Select Facebook (build 140579) and trash it.

I am still having issue. I uninstalled FB application from store. I am using Samsung ACE Plus. Recommend solution.
I have an HTC inspire 4g, doing the same thing. I've tried uninstalling updaates, restarting, even reseting my phone. One facebook for HTC app is permanently installed so I can't delete it. I'm tired of this notification being stuck in my window and draining my battery! Someone please help!!!!!;????
I went in an UN synced my facebook to contacts and it went away.

What really going on with the cell phone now It have gotting to the point where its **** me off
Easiest way to resolve this:
Go to System Settings > Application Manager > Swipe right to left twice to the ALL header > Scroll down to Downloads (Android system downloads not the browser downloads) > Tap Downloads then Clear Data
This should resolve it, the process may be a bit different other phones (mine is a galaxy s3)
I just went to my browser then it's downloads are that click and delete.

I had faced the problem since 15 days back with my Samsung Galaxy S-II mobile. But ultimately I got escape from the continuous downloading of "facebook (build 140579) notification. Till date who are suffering with this problem, please follow the procedure. Click on "Application" icon, next click on "Downloads", next click on "Other downloads". mark on facebook build 140579, then click cancel. Thats all.:-\
