WiFi and 3G simultaneously

Hi everyone,
I am trying to tether the GPS of my Galaxy Y phone and use it with my Android tablet.
For this reason I installed this app on my phone

and this app on the tablet

Problem is that when I connect these two with the WiFi, (the phone as portable hotspot), the tablet is immediately disconnected from the 3G network.
Is it possible to have both WiFi and 3G connected at the same time? The tablet is Android 4.
