Att logo in corner

Yes im new to andriod phones, and I have a simple question. On the galaxy s3 "ATT" appears in the upper left hand corner untill I unlock my phone then it disappears. Does anyone know why it does this? Can i change it to either go away forever or make it stay perminate? Any help or answers would be great! Thank you!

That's just your carriers branding idk maybe if you rooted it but check your settings to be sure
