Using wake lock detector I found this NLP wakelock running constantly and need help figuring out what it could be.

I've noticed over the last 3 days Google services has been running at 23%-29% sometimes more than my screen time.

I'm running stock android on a nexus 4 with no ROMs or Kernels. I have all syncing off and GPS in settings and only have location services on.

    Thanks

I was having the exact and issue... You can do the following to alleviate the problem...

    1. Disable location services completely (or)

    2. Turn off location reporting and location history under Google now settings and disable wifi based location reporting under wifi settings as well.

    Hope this helps!

I was getting the same thing. Constant wake lock from that NLP service, whatever it does. So much so that my phone was never going in to deep sleep at all.

Turning off Google Now solved the issue, but it hardly seems like a permanent solution. I'd prefer to use Google Now honestly.

Seems like a very widespread issue based on a few Google searches (ironically). I'm hoping for a real solution soon. I left iOS for Android because of Android's great flexibility, but it seems Google doesn't care when their own apps and services begin killing everyone's phone. At least Apple fixed their crap.

So I figured out what was causing my specific issue. I noticed that it only occurs at work when connected to WiFi. It must be something with the firewall at work, because it doesn't occur on WiFi at home or anywhere else, and it stops if I disconnect from WiFi while at work (and stay on 4G). Even with Google Now and all location services on, there's no abnormal battery drain so long as I'm not connected to this specific WiFi network.

Very strange but I'm certain that something specific about the WiFi network at work was causing it. They do have a firewall and web filter that blocks a ton of stuff (including all POP and IMAP mail ports, YouTube, Facebook, etc), so I wouldn't be surprised if some Google server is getting blocked, causing the Android OS to go in to a wakelock mode. Seems like a bug that the OS would panic if it can't reach a specific server but at least I have a workaround and don't lose any functionality.

Persists for me on Wi-Fi at home or anywhere else, and on mobile data. Seems to be unrelated to network.

The only solution I have found to actually work is totally disabling location.

The problem is this breaks all the cool features of android in Jellybean, and renders me wishing I had an iPhone. Yes I just said that.

It has been 4 months of dealing with this problem for me on my SGS3, and numerous other devices have the the same issues.

Guess Im'a have to try going back to stock. I can't deal with this battery drain.

Liquid Smooth 2.8 through 2.10, Jellybean 4.2.x through 4.3, on my Galaxy S3. Sad times.

Google Location Services and Google Now are the cause for this. Disable them completely, you'll be surprised.
NLP stands for Network Location Provider, i don't know why Google do nothing with it. The problem is there since Gingerbread.

Hey all, I'm not certain of any connection here since close to the same time frame I also upgraded to Liquid 2.10 and maybe it just settled down. Yes the problem has been around a long time, but check it:

I have recently resigned my position at a company, and removed my active exchange account from my phone. Since removing that account I have had zero problems. This has been over two weeks now, and I only have location sharing and location history disabled.

Does anyone else who has this problem also use active exchange with active sync?

    Just something I noticed.

I have android 4.4.2 and I am still having this issue. I had 50% battery one moment, set a location based reminder in Google Keep (after having enabled Google Now or what ever it is, the app that gives you info about your route home from work, weather and search and what not. Well after setting the reminder, something like 5 minutes I was down to 24% battery left..... Normally I can get about 10% per hour usage while watching video... So I checked it out on an app I have and the culprits were the NLP wakeup and location manager or something. I have now signed out of that app and am in the process of rebooting my phone. Actually I am uninstalling/disabling it because I cannot have my battery draining like that. Normally I get home at the end of the day with between 50 and 70% depending on how much I have been using my phone, I have never been down to 20% ever while out of the house. I had to pull the battery off and put one of the emergency spare batteries I carry with me in it so I don't drain the battery too much since full discharging Lion batteries is not healthy for them.

Does anyone have any solid advice or solutions that don't involve disabling GPS? I have recently been experimenting with having GPS on 24/7 and I have been astonished at my great battery life throughout the day and decided to leave it on. Today is the first shocker I have had in a long time.
