Good movie player that works with jelly bean 4.3 and has subtitles?

My go to app for watching movies was the MXplayer. but since they have not come out with and update yet i need a player that i can meanwhile use. thanks for any suggestions

It works, but cant play .avi files :/

None of the video players in the Play Store worked on my 2012 Nexus 7 running 4.3 but VLC somehow worked perfectly on it (I had to sideload the .apk as the US version of the Play Store stated that it wasn't available in the US).
