If you use task killers to "save battery" and "speed up your phone", I advice you to read this: HTG Explains: Why You Shouldn’t Use a Task Killer On Android

I recommend you stay away from task killers as it does not always kill an application process correctly or it kills the wrong one, thus potentially introducing system instability.
Devices (Their ROMs and respective mods, if any):

HTC One M8: Stock Sense 6 w/ OEM and carrier bloatware removed [daily driver]
Samsung Galaxy SII (SGH-T989/Hercules): AOSPA 4.6 Beta 6 (4.4.4) FINAL, ViPER4Android FX, updated Adreno 220 drivers [backup]
HTC Nexus 9: Stock Android Lollipop

I tried many free tools, all of them have disadvantages, but now I use Mobile Worker app to manage my tasks!
