Maybe if you have a car mount for your device? You can initiate voice commands hands free by saying "Google".

Alas, it appears your device must be awake and have Google Now up on the screen for the "Google" voice command initiation to work. How cool would it be if there was a secret word, like "Google", or better yet - you record it yourself, to wake up your phone AND put it into Google Now voice command ready mode??

As Larry David would say, "PRIT-TAY...PRIT-TAY....PRIT-TAY....PRETTY GOOD!"

I know it does stuff like height for athletes but what I'd really like to know is if it can return results for stuff like:

-How many RBIs does Joey Votto have this year?
-Who has the most blocks in the NBA?
-Which team is leading the NFC South right now?
-Who is number 87 for the Pittsburgh Penguins?

I'm sure it can answer stuff that involves sports records but I'd use much more often is if it can do current, up to date stats.

I tried all those and only got normal Google searches. Usually you'll have better luck with more simple, straightforward, and unambiguous questions.

Found a few more that it will speak back at you...

say "time in location" or "what is the time in location" (City/state/country) and it will tell you the local time there

ask it the date in a country

ask it what language is spoken in a country (i.e "language in France")

ask it what the currency is of a country (will speak it and below the card info will give conversion to US dollar)

ask it what the national anthem is of a country

ask it what the capitol is of a country or state

ask it what is the state bird of a particular state (will say it and provide a picture)

ask it what country a city is in

    ask when is daylight savings

ask it when a season starts (e.g. spring, summer, etc...)

ask it what time zone a state or country is in (it will speak back the time zone or zones)

ask it to convert currency "what is 1 US dollar in Canadian" or "5 US dollars in euros" or "convert 5 US dollars to yen"

"what is the boiling point of water?"

ask it when is the superbowl / when is the world series

and this one I thought was really cool, ask it when a movie was released... "when was better off dead released?"

ask it who directed a movie.. "who directed Jaws?"

ask it what movies an actor/actress was in

Things that it won't speak back but will give you info on the screen:

ask it the population of a City or Country (it wont speak back but will show population statistics)

ask it what a country's flag looks like

ask it "when is the next baseball game" or say "baseball schedule" it will bring up a MLB schedule

I've gotten some weird looks from the family for talking to my phone so much

The voice recognition is amazing, I can't get it to fail

If you ask "do I need an umbrella today," does it locate you properly or think you're in a different city? Yesterday it thought I was in Chicago, and today Washington DC. Bummer...

Yeah, I figured. I knew the voice search would do whether your team won or not that day so thought maybe they had up to date stats too, hehe

PC World did a comparison of Apple's Siri and Jelly Bean's voice commands. Guess which one came out the winner. Check it out here..

I've been wondering this myself - I've gotten the work card on accident a few times. Try asking for a map of or to navigate to your work address.

I set my home and work locations in latitude, as described in the first post of this thread, and after a day or two the cards are now just automatically showing up at the approximate times I leave my home/work for work/home every day. Pretty nifty if you ask me.

You need to switch languege for Voice Recognition not system languege, those are 2 seperate settings. It should defenetly work since it's same with old voice commends and when i switched voice regonition settings they become avable for me

It would be cool if you could ask it if it's already rained today (for those of us who sleep in frequently).

Not sure if it's the way I talk, but whenever I ask for "Seamus O'Doherty" I get "shame is so dirty."

Occasionally it doesn't understand me when I say "Zooey Deschanel" like I normally say it. Once got Brock Obama when I meant Barack Obama.

I've recited copypastas with humorous results in the transcription. Highly recommended for a good laugh.

The movies commands have recently changed. If you used to say cast of '' " It would bring up a card and read it. Now it just brings up results like show times.

I also think that the alarm actions have changed. I used to say "set alarm for tomorrow at 6am" now I get a card saying it doesn't support dates only times

Has anyone found the PERSONALIZED VOICE RECOGNITION with Google Now? It replaces Voice Search, and I can't find this option anywhere. The accuracy seems to be suffering, but I am not positive of that. Is this option buried somewhere new? On by default?

Excellent post btw. I have used Voice Search for years now, but there are some nifty ones I have not seen before.

EDIT- Nevermind. This seems to be the result of me hacking Google Now onto 4.0.4. Checked on the Gnex with 4.1, and the option is right where it should be.

My favorite voice command so conveniently works with : "Listen to <name of song>" It you select Spotify for the default app for this command, it will find the most relevant answer on spotify and play it, whether you downloaded it or not. So far it's been quite accurate. Has anyone else taken advantage of this awesome feature?

I'm from Louisiana. If you've ever heard our accent and lingo then you know any voice recognition software is in for a job trying to understand what I'm saying if I speak naturally. But Google Now hasn't missed a step not one time. I can talk to it in my most cajun-creole-brokenest-english voice and she gets it right 99.9% of the time. +1 Google for rubbing Cr-apple's face in the mud with this 1.

This morning in the car I told it "Listen to fleet foxes". Instead of Pandora, I got a Google search of "listen to sweet f******." I have no earthly idea what might be hiding under those stars, lol.

I asked it "who wrote a game of thrones" as a test and it popped up a card with GRRM's picture and told me that George R R Martin was the author of A Game of Thrones.
