Hiding user reviews from kit Kat play store.

Not to be a censor police but I am getting annoyed with the play store allowing profanity in the user reviews. This is the third time this past month I saw the f word clear as day. This time just looking up some WiFi scanner called WiFi Analyzer.

There is no way to actually report the review except for spam. Also I need to go into the store to check for updated apps and to read the release notes but if they are going to allow filth in the reviews at least give us the option to not show the reviews. Instead now I have to remember not to scroll down to far.

I can block them on Firefox and Chrome using Ad Block but only on the computer.

I'd rather have candor and free speech than censorship. You have your workaround, don't scroll down unless you want to read the reviews.

Free speech aside, I have to go with CJ on this one. There's no way I know of to alter the app to hide reviews, and in any case (beside the point as it may be) I'm a firm believer in the virtue of occasionally being exposed to things you might not like.

I understand what you are saying but Google allows any kind of review even if it it not a review. Just look at the reviews on the Amazon App Store and you will see a difference in quality. On the Amazon App Store there are actually reviews some paragraphs long and on the Amazon App Store I never encounter vulgarity.

I dont mind the swearing, but 9 times out of 10 what the app developers do to get high reviews is to get all of their friends to rate their app as 5 stars, even if they havent ever used it. That's how people end up with crappy apps that speak more than they're worth. THATS what I hate.

That is what I am saying swearing which bothers me greatly but not just that the fake spam reviews to get high ratings and that Google does not care in filtering them unlike Amazon's Store which is more honest. This is why when both stores have the same app I will download it from the Play Store but at first read the reviews on the Amazon Store which is safer but more honest as they allow real reviews.

Well, on Amazon (as on Google Play) you can report reviews that are offensive, spam, abusive, etc. Just make sure that the review really corroborates your complaint.

I don't believe you're allowed to review an app without it being installed on a device on your account. Now, that doesn't mean friends of devs can't all install, write a review, then uninstall. But ... you can't just get 100 buddies to write reviews for you.

I don't think anyone can help you here. If the swearing bothers you, then the Internet is a dark, dangerous place for you to venture out into. Ultimately, you're responsible for your reactions, not others.

Sorry, but I personally think that's absolute nonsense. And quite disturbing if it's a general trend, to be honest.

The OP has a very fair and correct grievance.

This is a major store the whole world uses. Not an underground perverts exchange.
Every one uses the Internet.
We have and need to maintain common decency, and set standards that are respectful to everyone else.

I thought Android Central members were a bastion of this.

No profanity on public shopping pages, please.

Even more shame on Google, yet again.

I think you have to take the big picture. If reviews are obscenity for its own sake, then report the reviews. Shame on Google if they don't remove them but ... is there evidence of that? I haven't heard.

If people post reviews with a few harsh words in them ... well, that's the Internet. You can't censor the Internet based on a minority's feelings about language.

We have and need to maintain common decency, and set standards that are respectful to everyone else.
I agree - to a point. Let me know when you've determined how to set that "common" level, and "standards." Let me know when you've determined who gets to decide what "common" is and who sets the standards.

How do you even report bad reviews on the Play Store anyway? All I can see is Helpful, Not Helpful and Spam.
Madd54 I agree with you I understand seeing that garbage on a underground store site selling illegal apps and porn but on a major place like the Play Store that has millions of viewers kids even as they have a lot of kids games on there I don't understand how there is no type of filter on the user reviews. As I also said just look at the Amazon App Store and the reviews there are actual reviews and I know they are moderated as I have seen no profanity on there at all. Also for the occasional bogus review on there you can report it as not helpful and then it says something like report as offensive.

Hi. Thanks for pointing this out.
I actually had not seen that actual word there before, though I only look at apps about once a week.

You are right, it is still there.
I was going to wait to get to a pc and see if we could report it on Chrome or Play Store.
However I did find how to report it just now on the phone page.
Maybe it's a new feature. If I had seen that myself I would have wanted to report it.
I welcome you to report it as well, in fact anyone reading this please.
I think emailing the developer is worth doing as well. It should not have been there so long. Shame on them.
Whether Google will act or even read our complaints is another story of course. It looks bad for the developer as well.
I agree also about Amazon monitoring posts better.
Try to post a profane word on AC and it won't appear, even when I called myself an Eedeeott! :)

It was at the bottom of the page,
see shots. I saved a screenshot of the offending review page.

Reported it but I doubt Google will do anything. I often find objectionable material on there search engine but when I report the sties they are all rejected saying there is nothing wrong with them so I don't do that anymore. That is why I use Bing more for searching especially images where I find more bad stuff on Google.

Also I see that this should have been in the Google Play Store forum. Sorry I could not find that forum because I posted the OT on my tablet and this site has a lot of forums. Mods you can move it if it belongs there. Thanks.

It shouldn't be on the front page for an app, for sure. I don't know there is a forum on AC for Play Store. Regards.

Kids ought to have the content filtered ... So they won't see anything but Everyone tagged apps. Which in this case, it is.

BTW, Wifi Analyzer by Farproc is better. This looks like a misleading app, similar looks but much more amateurish.

WOAH THERE cowboys. That's not how you report a review, but reporting the app itself! So you're reporting the whole app as offensive.

Having a hard time not seeing this a First World problem.
