Most procedures refer to uninstalling an app altogether. The following procedure claims to allow for disabling: Apps screen > touch 3 dots in right corner > select uninstall/disable apps > click on "-" sign for desired app.
However, I only get an option to uninstall no disable?

Which device do you have? You may need to go into Settings > Apps > All > (Select your app).

Stock Android only allows disabling of apps that can't be uninstalled.
