I am almost sure it wont. Samsung usually wants to quickly force their customers to upgrade their phones.
Usually a phone more than 1 year old will not get an update. S4 released on April 2013.
And every OEM will have to wait for Lollipop to become stable. For example samsung directly jumped to 4.4.2 instead of 4.4.0

I agree completely. In my experience most phones stop receiving updates when there hardware can no longer keep up, not when they hit some magical age. I would be stunned if the s4 doesn't get L.

Quite untrue, the hardware often lives for quite long but companies choose to stop giving the device updates due to their own reasons.

I could point out some examples like the HTC One X.

Usually just one reason - it costs money to write the code needed to make a particular version of Android work on a particular model phone. Once they think they can get away without angering too many customers, the phone gets dropped from the update list. (If you keep a million dollars worth of customers, but it costs you $2 million to write the code, you're losing money, so it's a bad decision. You have a better bottom line by alienating those customers. Business is driven by the cost/benefit ratio, not the "most likely to be voted nice guy" contest.)
