I believe there will not be a gallery app.

Photos is a part of the Google+ app, so if they take away the Gallery app, which I don't think they will, then people have no choice but to not disable Google+ unless they download a third party app.

In the Google L preview, not the recent AOSP one, there was no gallery.

I have a feeling they are going to unbundle the photos app from Google plus. Already the current photos app no longer has a link back to Google plus. Also, in the Google plus app, photos is now hidden away in a weird spot. I could be wrong, but the signs are there.

I can confirm that there is no gallery app in lollipop. I have the Nexus 9
