with exchange now built into gmail, why is there no conversation view

maybe I missed the setting but unlike gmail, when looking at a corporate email they choose not to have a conversation display. This is something the old stock email app never seemed to have, I was excited to hear that gmail would handle corporate email accounts but after setting up my nexus 6 last night, it still displays the old way.

I'm not seeing why this is such a hard thing to implement.

The conversation view drives me crazy. I have no idea why google is unable to allow users to disable it on their phone.
