Lollipop on Xperia z3 compact wifi connection when no Internet capability. What gives?

Lollipop on Xperia z3 compact wifi connection when no Internet capability.

Many apps, such as I regatta, use a wifi link to collect local data and or control kit like gopro cameras. Lollipop has no way of connecting to a wifi link which doesnt have Internet capability. Previous versions all ok.
Desperate for a workaround until this major lack of foresight is corrected.
