Why is this Lollipop update causing a battery drain?

Lollipop update causing battery drain

I have had a Galaxy Tab S 10.5 for about 8 months. Fabulous device. Auto update sis on by default. 5 or 6 days ago I was prompted to install Lollipop 5.0.2, an 185Mb download. I promptly did so.

Big mistake. I have 2 serious issues;
1. battery drain makes it almost unusable. I can literally watch the meter drop with just plain internet browsing. It will drain maybe 15% or more in an hour
2. I use Chrome as browser of choice. Now I get frequent "Aw Snap" freezes when I never had any before.

I am sure I am not the only one. Hopefully someone can suggest some fixes for this buggy O.S. If I could revert to KitKat without a factory reset I would, I dislike this so much.

All help gratefully accepted.

Thanks
John

Re: Lollipop update causing battery drain

Hello John, have you done a factory reset?
It is recommended to do a factory reset after a software update.
Just remember to back up everything so you won't lose it.

Will that restore KitKat?
What is the best way to backup all data, bookmarks etc etc?

Re: Lollipop update causing battery drain

What I am saying is that compared to the OS I had on the device, I find 5.0.2. a dog. Google suggests lots of people are finding the same. Unless a factory reset will resolve the 2 issues I posted about, I would prefer to consign this to the scrapheap and move to an OS that works. I assume a reset will revert to out of the box OS ie KitKat? I may be wrong. If it resets to Lollipop, I am happy to trial that again to see if issues are resolved - if they aren't I would want to replace the OS. Hope that makes sense.

No, you can't revert to KitKat. But still, you should give it a try and see for yourself if it'll work for you.

Thanks for the responses.

Can I ask specifically if anyone here on the forum has suffered the same problems and, if so, how they fared or resolved them?

Re: Lollipop update causing battery drain

Many people have experienced bad battery life after the update to lollipop.
It actually happened to me with my Galaxy S5.
But it starts getting better, especially after a reset.

Re: Lollipop update causing battery drain

Hi

Thanks all.

I tried a factory reset. Still unhappy with battery wear and frequent crashes on Chrome. Never had either before.

Can anyone suggest how I can reinstall KitKat, which seemed entirely bug free.

Thanks
