If OTA image is not available for sideloading, must I flash?

Hi, I am tired of waiting for AT&T to send the OTA for Android 6 so I have spent several hours trying to load it myself. I made it through all sorts of drivers issues but now I am stuck because the image file I am trying to load does not match the fingerprint of my device. I have an AT&T Nexus 6 with LMY48Z. If I can't find an image that takes me from LMY48Z to 6.0 (I can find images for earlier builds, but not LMY48Z!), then what do I do? Am I forced to flash the phone and use an image from Google's site?

Thanks! I am new to this process!

Yep, you need to go from a specific build to a specific build via OTA or you can just flash whatever image you want.
