Where did the icons on my home screens go?

My HTC One M8 completely drained yesterday. First time that ever happened (that's what you get for giving your phone to a 5 year old to watch Disney videos on YouTube). I charged it and when it turned on, a lot of the icons from my home screen had disappeared. It seems that the only icons that are left are from apps that I installed myself (and the pre-installed apps like Gallery, Phone, Browser, etc.

Also, the app drawer is now sorted alphabetically where before it wasn't sorted at all (first installed, first in list) and all folders had disappeared.

Unfortunately, my HTC Backup dates from january (I thought it automatically made backups). Is there a way to restore my phone to what it was yesterday? Through Google perhaps?

Did they change the launcher on you? You don't by any chance use a third party launcher? Because if you do, when you install apps, it'll often drop the icons on your system-installed launcher as well.

Nope, Launcher did not change. I'm using the stock (HTC) launcher.
