How to combine speaker volume and headphone volume controls together?

For my current Android version 6.0 on my Moto X(XT1575) and previous versions(phones), when I'm playing a music source such as Spotify, I'll turn my media volume control to low or zero then plug in my headphones that are already mounted in my ears and the volume will instantly switch to full 100% and nearly give me a heart attack and surely damage my eardrums to some extent. I believe what's happening is that the phone remembers the previous headphone volume setting which is typically full 100% while hooked into my AUX line in my car.

Is there a setting that will prevent this from happening and sync the phone speaker and headphone jack volume control together, or is this something that needs addressed by Android?
