When I bought my Nexus 7, it was running Android 5.0 out of the box. That first evening, I went through no less than seven upgrades one after the other, some of them minor, before finally arriving at the latest version available for it. By far the most tedious part was waiting for the Optimising Apps part of each procedure.
But with Android 7.0, that will no longer be necessary.
Of course, the optimising still gets done, but differently.
