Default Encrypted SMS apps - Recommendations?

Free or paid applications that send and receive encrypted, private, secure SMS messages with password protection - thanks

None! SMS and regular cell phone transmissions are not encrypted, nor will any app do that. You would need to buy a military grade phone to do that.

Sure, you can password protect your SMS, but not encrypt it. That would also go against FCC rules.

Actually, GO SMS has a private password protected box option worth looking at.

There is also an app called "TextSecure Beta" that claims to be fully encrypted over the air but both sender and receiver must be using it.

Thank you for the replies. Used AppBrain to search for the encrypted SMS applications on Market. Most apps were just private SMS/MMS inbox apps but dont really encrypt the text message when sending or receiving.

Some apps require you to tell the recipient the key you used before they can decrypt the message.

Found Indigo Secure SMS on Android Market. Decent user interface and easy to use. It actually sends scrambled text in the SMS, so if the receiver doesnt have the app installed, they will only see scrmbled text.

Recommend if you come across other similar apps.

Lies. Many do, like SecureSend, there are others on the market.

Nonsense. SMS is text, people can encrypt the text before sending it. (Even if it is just mentally replacing words with others words)

    1. I doubt FCC has the right (certainly no moral right) to interfere with your SMS texts, but more importantly:

    2. They would have no way of knowing.
