Kindle / EBook Readers and Finding Current Books?

I'm looking for an app that might allow me to buy and read current books the way Kindle does.

I found Aldiko which as a variety of free books, but nothing mainstream current. I'm willing to pay for these. Is there any app that maybe would connect me to Amazon or another service that would deliver an electronic version to my phone?

Just seems like good use of my time to have some good books on there to read...

Kobo is also a good choice. They have an agreement with Borders, eReader and Fictionwise are owned by Barnes & Noble, so both are good.
