Default [Free App] HypedMusic- Unlimited, free music streaming, no ads

Hey guys, I'd love for you guys to check out my newly released free music app, HypedMusic. The android app is the counterpart to my website, Listen to Music. | Free | Unlimited | HypedMusic, and lets users build playlists and listen to millions of songs completely legally, for free, and in unlimited quantities. The google play link is here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...m11c2ljYXBwIl0. Using the facebook login system, playlists are seemlessly connected from the site to the app, so music can be easily ported without any active syncing. Please let me know what you think of the site/app please!
Thanks a lot for your time!

The app is pretty good. It would be great if you could add controls to the notification area and lock screen. The ability to add multiple tracks from search results to a playlist at one time would be nice too.

It's a good app. Adding some of the ideas in the last post would make it even better.

The biggest drawback of the app is the limited library of available music. My favorite feature is the seamless shift between the web site and Android app.

Hey thanks a lot for the feedback guys!

@cmb6 could you give me an example of songs that you were unable to find on hypedmusic? I have been able to find 99% of the music I listen to on HypedMusic, but then again I'm only 17 so most of the stuff I listen to is pretty new. Examples of songs would be great because it might be a programming error on my end that prevents my algorithm for curating the music, and examples would help me debug issues.

@kevans122 Those are two things I'm definitely looking into. Unfortunately, I've attempted adding buttons to the notification bar via remoteViews, but unfortunately Android does not provide consistent support for click events in the notification bar, at least for apps that are not officially supported (such as the official music app). I will keep looking around for some workarounds. Buttons on the lock screen I think is possible, so I will work on adding that to my next release. Adding multiple tracks at the same time will be on my list of to-do things too!

Also, to everyone else: I'm planning on giving an option to locally download playlists so that users can listen to their music without a 3g/wifi connection for the app, so keep your eyes posted on that!

Anymore reviews of the app and ratings on the google play store would be greatly appreciated guys!

    Thanks a lot guys,
    Luke

On second thought, the library is vastly broader than I had thought. I do find the search engine to be difficult to use.

I have been using the website & android app interchangeably, and I haven't noticed a difference in the search engines. In the last little while, I've been using the website's search engine.

I find that songs with fairly common words in the title and more difficult to get than songs with unusual words. For example, look at The Beatles' album Rubber Soul. The search engine pulls up many copies of "Norwegian Wood." On the other hand, I cannot find "Wait." To be fair, "Norwegian Wood" is a better-known song than "Wait." For another example, try the ensuing Beatles' album, Revolver. I instantly found at least a dozen copies of "I'm Only Sleeping," but I needed two or three different searches to find a single copy of "And Your Bird Can Sing." I consider both of these songs on Revolver to be equally well known (or similarly obscure).

I also noticed some quirks with the search engine. Apostrophes must be omitted from contractions (e.g., enter "Im" for "I'm"). In addition, you can't search by album. And, searches for artists yield far fewer entries than the library holds.

I hate to be critical because I think the web site and the app are outstanding resources for listening to music. But, I think you can make these even better if you have a more intuitive search engine.

    Good luck.

I agree that having toggles for the lockscreen would be awesome but I know how difficult this can be.
I also think having recommended songs off the ones you listen to the most or based off the music in your playlist would be a great addition as well.
Also, I would like to see the ability to have more than just have friends playlists, seeing as none of my friends have it. I want to see anybodys playlist (providing they make them public) and then the ability to subscribe to those.
I'm really looking forward to the ability to sync music for offline usage.
Keep up the good work on this awesome app!

ok, lots of great suggestions guys! I'm definitely listening to your input and I'm going to implement a lot of your ideas soon.

I just released v1.1.0 on the Android market, giving an option for people without Facebook accounts to use the app locally (syncing with the website can't happen, of course) but is still a great option for people without Facebook.

@cmb6: you bring up a lot of good points about the search engine. There's a lot of technical things that are hard to work around, but rest assured that the search engine will continue to get better. I'm working on an algorithm that runs audio files through echonest to clean up song data and give me uniform song names, song artists, and song albums that are reliable, which will in turn let users search by album, etc. and make search results better. The quotes thing tbh was just me being lazy- I wrote the code really quickly, and didn't feel like dealing with issues escaping strings and whatnot when storing data in mysql, so i simply stripped all quotes from songs. This will be definitely fixed.

@ashlanfosho song recommendations will definitely come soon once my data is cleaned with echonest. Actually, all playlists for users are public right now (for example, if you'd like to look at my playlists, it would be at http://hypedmusic.com/#/user/100000929636266 given a facebook id, but other than viewing friend's playlists, idk how to make the playlists searchable (perhaps popularity? tags?) so if you have any good ideas i'd love to hear them.

My next priority with HypedMusic is letting users download playlists locally on their Androids so that they can listen to music offline. Then the cleaning up song data/searching improvements, recommendations, and then radio channels. These are all coming soon, so keep checking back!

Also, I'd really appreciate it if you shared the app with friends and gave me good ratings on the Android market. More feedback would be greatly appreciated, and if you have any other feature requests, please post them on this thread! AndroidCentral is awesome!

Notification controls work consistently in Honeycomb and later. I know because I do it in my app. Look at setOnClickPendingIntent in the RemoteViews class.
