Will i lose my apps/app data if i update my android firmware?
i am using samsung galaxy note 2

I would go with yes. That being said. backup your data. You can always reinstall your apps from play store or wherever you got them from, and data can be restored from the backup.

What should I use to back up my app data? Samsung kies doesn't have this option.

I always just create a nandroid myself. I don't use any apps that don't back them selves up onto my sd card and the other data I have is synced with Google. I don't play games so I don't need any of that kind of data backed up.
