when my mom got her optimus, they installed ringdroid for her (which was pointless; she uses her ipod for audiobooks and has always had an actual phone ringing noise as a ringtone on her phones), but they actually strongly advised her against downloading an appkiller. this was sprint.
when I got my phone (at the same sprint store), they just activated the phone and gave it to me and that was that. - 01-19-2011, 04:21 PM #254
Best Buy, Sprint, LG Optimus S. The rep didn't suggest a task killer, but I specifically told him not to install anything after activating. Since this is my first android device, I had friends and family tell me that task killers were essential. I had one installed for a day and then did some research and promptly uninstalled.

I bought mine at uscellular (I know not one if the four major ones on the first post) and they installed one on there before I left. I installed it the next day.

T-Mob
The rep advised me that I should definitely get one with my Vibrant purchase, after discussing the OS with him and realizing he did not know what he was talking about and/or anything about the OS and how it worked, I just opted not to.
Best choice ever, only had problems with previous devices and task killers. - 02-15-2011, 08:22 AM #257
Best Buy - Samsung Epic 4G. The sales rep installed ATK and Paper Toss on my husband's phone. I warned him they would suggest he install ATK but didn't know they'd actually have the nerve to install it on his phone...along with a game! After he read the message boards, he promptly uninstalled.

HTC EVO 4g shift, bestbuy online. Picked it up at the store and wouldn't let them open the box.
I had to go to the Sprint store to activate, a rep there installed task killer and told me a bit about it. I didn't mind. - 02-21-2011, 08:41 AM #259
Sprint EVO Shift via best buy - no task killer, never gave them a chance. Once it was activated I did a snatch and grab and was out the door.

T-mobile MyTouch 4g
Never mentioned it or installed it. The rep just put the clock widget on the home screen as well as the google search bar.
I believe it's just a ploy to have you come back and buy extra batteries from them... lol - 03-06-2011, 10:54 AM #264

I have a Sprint Evo and the rep at the store "suggested" I install a task manager. I tried a couple and ended uninstalling them and going without.

1. VZW
2. No mention of a task manager. - 03-25-2011, 08:31 PM #271
After doing research for like a year and deliberating jumping networks, here's what I decided on:
Samsung Transform w/ Android 2.1 (Eclair)...now upgraded to 2.2 FroYo
When I bought it, Advanced Task Killer was discussed but not installed. I later installed a Task Killer on my own, - 03-26-2011, 04:16 PM #272

Task killers shouldnt be used for the most part so its good if they didnt put it on or suggest it

When I bought my Sprint Hero (my first Android device) the Sprint Store salesman said I needed to DL ATK and did it for me before he even handed me the phone. When I upgraded to my Evo though, the salesman (different guy) made it a point to tell me not to use one. I already knew not to this time, but still..

My mother bought a Samsung for T-Mobile. Whatever their Android is (I'm Verizon so I don't really know). She bought it at Sam's Club. She said they installed Advanced Task Killer and they told her she needed to let the battery go all the way to the end without charging and let it recharge in order to get battery life. I told he she needs to call me from now on if she has issues first, since the Task Killer isn't really good for the battery in the long-run and that it's bad to fully discharge Li-Ion batteries. The rep must have been thinking of the NiMH batteries.
