What's the best backup app?
Ok, with the possibility that the 2.0 update to the Eris beginning to roll out, what's the best backup app out there? And what does it backup? Obviously, I'd like my phone to stay the same - or be returned to the same condition it was before. And as a born cheapskate, I prefer free!

So being that I am just about to purchase an android, but haven't yet, I am kinda new to this. But can someone quickly review this for me. From what I understand, is that when they push an over-the-air update on your phone, it just happens out of nowhere, without you dialing or doing anything. Then you lose all your settings, applications and such when they do this update. However you can use a backup program to restore all your settings after the update, and restoring your settings back through this backup program, will not affect the update that was given. Meaning the restoring process will not take the phone back to the old Android version before the update. Is all of that correct?
Sorry not to drop in on your thread. But its of similar subject, and I'm also very interested in what the best backup program would be to download as soon as I get my android.Last edited by ancient_dragon; 02-18-2010 at 09:13 AM.

Looking in the market, MyBackup Pro seems to be a popular choice, only $5 (my apps, data, and especially my time are worth a *lot* more than that) and doesn't require root. Anybody here using that? Care to share an opinion?

I downloaded that last night and it was very easy. FYI, the free version is a full-up version for 30 days. I'm banking on getting the OTA upgrade within that time frame. Hopefully it won't wipe my phone, and those who are reporting that it did just didn't follow instructions or something (dunno), but this will help safeguard my settings. And if it does wipe it and this restores it like I'm hoping, then I'll probably buy.

My 2 cents.
Since we're discussing a complete system overhaul, IMO it would be best to just back up all your apk files and wipe the phone. I know when swapping between 1.5, 1.6, 2.01 and 2.1 on the Hero you run into things that just don't work without being re-installed.

You guys that are recommending backup software, I'd be interested to hear whether or not you've actually done a restore? I've tried restore's with all MyBackUp Pro without success. It seemed like a complete waste of money.
