How safe/secure are the applications in the android marketplace? I know one of the major draws for a lot of people with Android is how "open" it is, but does Google have some kind of review process much like the iPhone to make sure apps aren't malicious?

I know you can see what type of privileges/access each application you install has, but I sometimes feel the descriptions are a bit vague and end up not installing the application because it says it has access to my personal data and the internet, etc.

google does not patrol the market.

you should only install apps you trust.
in my case, i only trust opensource apps. all tho i dont understand programing, i know that if an app is open source, someone somewhere is gona look at it and make sure is not malicious
