Google Voice # switching accounts

I had an old google account in which i set up my phone # for google voice. I then opened up a new google account and wanted to set up my phone # for my new account.
I got the error "This number is already in use as a cell phone on another Google Voice account". I then deleted my old account and I still get this error. Is their another way to deactivate it? I currently don't use google voice as my voicemail and and would rather not get a google number.

It sounds like your mobile phone number is in use on the original account.
My only thought would be to change the number on your original account (the mobile number attached to it, that is). But, it sounds like you deleted the account.
