Textra (and Emoji Plugin) not working on Moto X?

Hi All,

I have a friend who has a moto x on republic wireless, and was trying to help him use textra and the respective emoji plugin to text myself (note II) and other friends with iOS devices. We downloaded textra and the emoji plugin, but when we send emojis from his phone, the receiving people get punctuation marks, and vice versa (picture attached is my textra app, showing the messages he sent to me, which should be a bunch of emojis).

We looked through the textra settings and cannot find anything for using emojis. I am curious as to why it works on my phone, but not his.

Is it his phone? He is on 4.2.2. if that helps. Does he need 4.3 or above?

Is it the carrier's problem?

emojis in Textra only work to other Textra users with the emoji plugin installed. Without the app or plugin, emojis wont work.

He does have the plugin installed, that's the issue. I have the plugin installed as well. I can send emojis and receive them from my iOS friends ( i have no other android friends) easily, even if they dont use textra. We are confused as to why my friend with both the textra app and the textra emoji plugin cannot send or receive emojis from either myself or our iOS friends, something I am able to do.
