    Default Good SMS Archiving Process/App?

My SMS DB is getting pretty big... 13K messages. My SMS app is acting up because of it... (I think).

I'd like to figure out a way to archive old messages, say older than a month, to another database of some sort, and have it searchable.

    I've tried this:
    https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...id.txtarchive2

But it didn't have any good settings, and it could not be scheduled, nor could it implement with Tasker.

I want a set and forget option, so I can have my SMS auto trim message threads, but not lose messages.

I also tried SMS Backup +, cause it can archive to gmail, but it can only do 150 messages, and it take forever since each SMS is a separate IMAP message.

    Thanks!

That's just a backup program. I use it for switching phones, but does not address my requirements above.

SMS Backup & Restore can help you saving messages. It exports to an xml file. I can open that file in Excel (using the style sheet that is created by the app) and I can easily see / search messages. Note, I have about 11,000 messages and it does take around 10 minutes to save all of them, so best to schedule it to run over night.

However, it doesn't help you deleting old messages. I did email the developer about that and he said he is working on having an option to delete messages older than X days (where you set what X is). So, keep an eye out on this app and future updates. I don't know of an app that does both things you want.

That's a good tip! I've used that in the past for backups and I really like it. Opening in Excel would be awesome.

I don't think in KitKit any App can delete messages anymore, unless it's the default SMS App. That might complicate things. Now, my G4 SMS App does have the ability to delete messages once they go over a # threshold per thread. For instance, 200. However, I enabled that over a day ago and it hasn't deleted 1 message yet.... so yeah.

    Thanks.
