Google App Battery Drain

I want to use this app because it's really useful but it's such a battery hog! It constantly uses location services and constantly gives me information I don't care about. Is there anyway to just have weather and sports be displayed?

You can easily modify what you want to see in Google Now: https://support.google.com/websearch/answer/2819541?hl=en

The way Google Now works requires your location service to be on, since it is location sensitive. You can turn Location Reporting off if you prefer, which will probably save a bit of battery. If you really only use it for weather and sports, you may be better off using individual widgets from some other app (like Yahoo Weather and ESPN).
