I have a LG G4 and want to track my 8 year old's phone for safety purposes.

I have not purchased a phone for my son yet, but was interested in the ZTE Whirl 2 for him. I am wanting to track his travel for example walking or riding home from school etc. Is the ZTE Whirl 2 a good phone and is it a good phone for tracking ability. Please advise on both.
