Default Disappointment in Android and car stereos

I bought my first car stereo in 20 years over the weekend and what a disappointment.

Which stereo did you get and why are you disappointed?

Kenwood DDX491HD. Disappointed in the fact that Android is not supported very well.

I would figure these stereos would really have a polished OS and be actually fun to use, but they don't. Its like car stereos are light years behind the technology movement.

Well USB doesn't function for one, unless you have an iPhone. I play a cd and the artwork, track name, artists name, and album doesn't display. I figure for $400.00 it should have more app features and etc.

I feel the exact same way. I recently went to a few local audio shops ready to drop some serious coin on a new head unit for my GF's car. After the sales guy ran through the demos on all their best units I walked out more convinced than ever to wait until the release of Android Auto/CarPlay.

It seems car audio is just starting to understand the relationship between the phone and users in a car environment. Units like the Pioneer 8100NEX and Rydeen DVA6 offer a much more fluid and interactive experience. Maybe the issue there is that they are Android devices as opposed to Windows CE or Ubuntu which seem more abundant.
