LG G3 and Android Auto (definitely not working)

Google's had this one listed under the known issues for a little while (https://support.google.com/androidauto/#6200174), but I had to try for myself anyway, now that the Verizon G3 has Lollipop.

And sure enough, it's a nonstarter. I'd forgotten that LG has those different USB options, and that's obviously jacking up Android Auto. :-/

So.. it's the USB options that could be doing this? Never thought about that. Maybe that's what's messing up the Samsung phones, too?

Samsung's thing just feels different, but who knows what lurks in the heart of code.

I'd say the LG G3 is the baseline. It's got to work with this phone or I am not buying it all. It's just not that important to motivate me to move to a different phone. If this phone is not one of the most popular it will be soon. It's a fantastic phone esp. considering the street price point. LG is going to have a hard time topping it.

Is it just a software issue? I have a pioneer 8000nex that is being replaced with one of the newer models as it's faulty. I'm wondering if my g3 with CM12 will work with Android Auto

What does the LG G3 do if you disable the Verizon installer stuff?
In the dialer type ##3328873, hit send, service code is 000000, and in the menu uncheck "tool launcher enable".

Confirmed: Android Auto will work on the G3 if you're running CM12. I used it with my AVH-4100NEX. I have since switched to a Moto X (2014) though mainly because of all the issues I was having with CM12 on the G3 in general.

Do you know what version of CM12 you were using? I just replaced my 8000 with my 8100, but when I plug my phone in I just get unsupported. I guess I better update to the latest CM.

Edit: Whoops. didn't realize there was an app to install. Dummy.

In an effort of testing on another I dusted of my VZ LG G3 and loaded cyanogenmod 12 nightly 2015-04-08. Android auto worked flawlessly on it. Using a AVIC8100NEX.

FYI, it seems the latest update to Android Auto fixes the LG G3. I upgraded the app today and it's working fine on my 8100nex. I'm on ATT - stock.

I found this on the Android Auto support site:

Known issues
Compatibility for certain phones
LG G3

Android Auto is not currently supported in the U.S. on the LG G3 for Verizon Wireless customers. Google is working with LG on compatibility and will announce an update when the issue is resolved.

i have an LG G3 with cm 12.1 and whenever i open the android auto app, the settings button is grayed out and does nothing when i connect to my headunit (avh 4100nex). how did you get it to work?

Can anyone confirm that a non Verizon (Sprint) G3 will work on Android Auto?

Since no one seems to have tried this, I just tried it myself on a Pioneer AVH-4100NEX display at Best Buy. Completely stock Verizon LG G3 running 5.0.1 but with the Verizon installer crap turned off as described above, and it worked flawlessly.

Just to let you guys know the lg G3 does work perfectly with my pioneer android auto. Had to factory reset phone. All good.
