Problem with S6 Edge

I'm using an S6 Edge with a Pioneer NEX-8100 unit. I'm able to connect to Android Auto, but am unable to switch away from the home screen on the pioneer. For instance, if I hit the phone or music icon, all that will display is a black screen. Has anyone else encountered this type of problem?

Did you have to buy to connect your phone, I'm looking to buy the same head unit.
Maybe once I have the unit I can understand your problem & find a solutions
