Hello all! :D

I just bought a car on Sunday.
I was really looking forward to the Android Auto part of the 8" display.

I'm pretty sure I set it up correctly because everything else seems to work like it's suppose to, as far as I know.
But.
When I goto the phone portion of Android Auto on my car's screen, all my contacts do not show up.
The ones that are there are in alphabetical order, but stop prematurely into my list.
If they are not in my list, I can still use my voice to call them and my phone doesn't ask for their number.
And I do not believe their profile pictures are displaying either way.

Are my contacts supposed to be set up differently on my phone to be shown in Android Auto?
Do they need some sort of tag in my Google account?

I am tethering a Samsung Note 4 (Verizon), Android version 5.1.1 lollipop

Hopefully all this made sense.
Please help.
Thanks in advance.

Lists in Android Auto are purposely limited to a set size in order to be more safe while driving so you are not scrolling and scrolling, so yeah you are supposed to use voice searching.

Really?
Then why even show some of them?
The seems more like I am not doing something correctly.
Or haven't synced something.
Or made my contacts a certain way to show up.
You know?

But what about the contact pictures not showing up?
When I make a call this is what I see......

Yes. It seems that way.
But yesterday, I deleted Android Auto from my phone and tried to start the process of syncing it to my car again.
It walked me through the prompts of giving apps permission, then Maps, and even tried to get me to sign up for a service or 2.....but no authorization for contacts (like my bluetooth phone connection did for my car before I installed Android Auto).
Still no change.
The contacts it does show, I can't seem to find a common link between them.
I have tried putting all my contacts in 1 group, but that still doesn't do anything.

Is there an actual Android Auto support group?

I'm having what sounds like the same issue.

I recently changed from a HTC M8 to a Samsung S7 edge. The HTC showed contact photos for incoming and outgoing calls regardless of how they were initiated.

For my S7E (With a 2016 VW Golf), I get the following behavior:

Incoming calls = contact details appear
Outgoing calls launched via car touchscreen = contact details appear
Outgoing calls launched via google voice control or via handset = contact details don't appear until after hanging up. They then show correctly in the call history shown on screen.

I always dial via google voice given that the Android Auto is so restrictive on what you can access via the screen, so it's driving me nuts. I have no way of knowing if google voice has picked the correct number to dial until after someone answers...

Any ideas?

Cheers,

Tim

I had the same issue. Some contacts in Android Auto would show their profile pics and others would show the words "Current Call."

On my phone I went to Settings > Apps > Android Auto > Storage and hit the Clear Data button.

That also removed all my permissions so I opened Permissions and enabled all four again.

Now all my contacts' profile pics appear on my car's Android Auto screen when making a call using Google voice search.
