Samsung GS7E and 2016 VW Golf R asking to pair bluetooth every time I connect

I've paired my car and phone, and added my phone as a trusted device, but each time it connects (via Android Auto, or over Bluetooth when not connected to AA), I get prompted to pair the devices and to add a new trusted connection. I can accept and add to my hearts content but it keeps asking me. Any ideas?

Same happens to me with my Golf 2016 and LG G4, and my previous S6. Not sure if there are any work arounds.
