I look all over the place for apps, Google play, Android central, and other random Google searches. Whenever I see a cool looking app, I do my research xD. Good thing you can always uninstall them.

but previously I would prolly go through appbrain (which kinda sucked) or the top display on play.google.com

Majority, I find through my Android circle on g+, and then look at the full review at AC and other sites. Few from word of mouth, and fewest by looking at the Play store.

I read Android Central and XDA. The play store itself is another avenue, but to get the latest scoop, XDA and AC is my default go to locations.

I visit the Amazon store every day to see the faotd and what's new. I also subscribe to android central and others and read daily in Pulse app. Then fire up tablet HD regularly to browse around...

Being new to Android on my EVO phones and now a Nexus 7 I depend on the reviews and recommendations from the trustworthy websites of Android Central, XDA, and Phandroid, usually in that order.

android central reviews of course. also 'other apps from the same developer' is a great way to find more from your favs

To find new apps I usually just look at the trending apps at the Play Store or Appbrain, but now that I have my Nexus 7 I've started to use Tablified Market also, so the pro upgrade would be nice!
