What separates Google+ from Facebook? Google+ is supposed to be a place where you share ideas; rather than a place where you follow ideas/what?s ?cool? to other people. But what?s really the difference?

Sure, Google+ came out with the idea of ?Circles? first; and, they really put them to work. Facebook, of course, followed with their own version of this. That being said: there is never anything you can come out with that won?t be mirrored else where. Or is there?

Let?s look at what Facebook has first. A place for you. Your identity. Your profile. You can share ideas; but, mainly your just sharing what ever is hot at the moment. Not everyone goes out to do the ?leg work? that is needed to make one thing ?viral?.

Let?s face it though. The stuff that makes it onto Facebook came on accident. No one really went out to find that stuff. They accidentally came across it else where. Then, the select few people actually went out of their way to find it in a search from a third party source. Then, everyone else just follows suit. They don?t go out and think for themselves and find things and actively discover new things.

Thus, Facebook is more or less a place for people to follow trends instead of start new ones.

Now let?s take a look at Google. They have the same basis really. However there idea is different. The idea to share your thoughts and actively begin trends and ideas. But, how does on do that differently than Facebook without the means?

Sure, Google could sit back and possibly force their way into every one?s life; taking over the social dominance by whatever means possible. However, this way won?t be changing the way we interact with each other; and, just substituting one thing for another like thing. Which is very hard when there are that many stubborn people sitting by idly. ?Why should I switch to something else when it?s the same exact thing. That?s just a hassle?.

So now comes to the question: how do you do that? The answer, simple enough of as it seems, is a lot easier for ?someone? like Google. They have the means to do it. Let?s face it. Half the stuff that gets onto Facebook is a video; and, with YouTube dominating the video world odds are it?s coming from Google.

What else does Google have that will aid in this process? Search. Where do ideas come from? The mind. Where do ideas grow? The reSEARCH and findings of new material to aid in factual knowledge to grow an idea into something real. Or, at least, the debate of it?s existence and relevance.

Now, we come to the +1 feature. Google is doing a good job with this. You can +1 everything you wish. Books, Market Apps, Websites you?ve searched for, etc. Excellent. But, now, how are you actually sharing, exploring and building these ideas? What?s the difference from it being posted on Facebook aside from the face it came from an internal source? Nothing.

No difference you ask? So how do we make it different? Back to search and +1?s we go.

` +1 Projects.

Instead of just sharing one single thought, one single video, one single anything: why don?t we put these thoughts into a project to build one larger ?whole? project. This could be used for education, scientific research, or just fun. My example will be for the majority with just fun:

Let?s say you and your friends are debating the greatest all time NHL Goalie Save of the century. You post a video, they post a video, you post a video, repeat process until you give up and haven?t gotten anywhere in the ?answer? to your debate. Videos get lost in time since they aren?t new fresh material. If anyone came into the debate at a later time they would just see the fresher videos.

Let?s keep our Projects together. Let?s not just post videos randomly and in a mess. Let?s not just post one thing. Let?s group it together and go through the research of developing a true ?answer?.

Features of +1 Projects:

The ability to +1 an entire search. Maybe the way another person decides to word a search is different from yours. Maybe this yields different results. Maybe this is your starting point for debate. Maybe you just like everything you found on this particular search.

Then, maybe, not everything there is really worthy. So you +1 the entire search. Now, it?s up for debate. Now, people can add things to your +1 project which you?ve shared with them. You can chose who does so or let everyone. Then, you can vote on irrelevant articles and if the vote passes they are removed; leaving raw factual material to work with.

Here the entire project has it?s own comment section a long with each individual item having it?s own.

This can be broken down into 2 different entities that tie together in different ways.

1- +1 Projects are automatically shared to your Google+ account under a tab on your profile. There they can be public, private, limited. They will always stay in this tab and can be posted to your timeline.

2- +1 Projects are personal. They are part of your entire Google Account not Google+. They are for you for your own research; however, you can share them within Google+ ?Debates?

3- Google+ Debates: add people or circles and start a debate. This is posted to your timeline; and, also a Debates Tab on your Profile. People can look through their friends profiles to see debates in order of newest or ?hot?. Or, maybe they just happen to see it in your timeline.

Then, from here you can allow friends to share, invite people, etc. Everyone can add items to the debate. IE, books from the market, Apps, Searches, whatever is relevant whatever you can +1. Anytime you +1 something you?ll be prompted to add it to an already existing debate your participating in; or, create a new one. Or, you could have the option to do this later when you look at them in your account. You can also take your privately made +1 Projects and add the entire project to this Debate. Maybe your private project started this debate; or, you like to get your facts together before you open your mouth.

This writing started out as something I called +1 Projects; which, was supposed to be the entirety of the point. However, as you can see I?ve added ?Debates?. Rather than rewrite this to include it initially I will incorporate it into my point as a teaching tool. As you can see, something that started into one thing grew into something else while all in one place with the material at hand. Which, is my idea for ?debates?. Keep it together.

The name Debates works for arguments; however, maybe not so much for research project between friends. It could be renamed to something broad and simple like Group Discussion. Then, inside you could classify it as a Debate or Research. This, would also aid in sorting through ones ?Group Discussions? Tab.
Let?s not just share ideas like Facebook; more or less following ideas. Let?s make ideas.
