This may be an old (ancient?) topic, but I am getting more concerned about protecting our phones. I have downloaded and installed Lookout on my phone. I have to renew the virus protection on my computer and saw that Norton 360 Multi Devices includes android protection. I was wondering, which was better or what anti virus and malware software other people use and recommend. Thank you for your help

Never ran one and haven't had a problem yet. Malware is the only "real" danger and the best protection from them is responsible use of your device, being fully updated, and root access control if your willing.

The old joke about Norton is it's like a virus that kills other viruses. So that's not something I'd like on my phone. That aside, I don't think there is any standout anti-malware program on Android because the OS itself is pretty immune to *current* attack methods. That doesn't mean something couldn't change later on, so I do recommend you get something. That way you already have at least one extra layer of protection already in place if/when a vulnerability is discovered. There's a number of good free apps out there, so it's not something I'd recommend spending money on. I personally use AVG's app because I also have it on my computers.

Lookout should be more than enough. I'm running TrustGo currently.

Err wait, you mean our phones. I use AVG, but the best way to protect yourself is by not clicking links you're unsure of (and if you must, check them on Google prior to blindly clicking on them) and reading app reviews before you install apps, and of course making sure your device is up to date, oh yeah and don't connect to any wifi/bluetooth network nor NFC device that you're unsure of.

I hope you see my post because it's been almost 6 mos. since your post. I am about to install TrustGo on my Motorola Droid Maxx. I really like the feature of emailing back to the owner a picture of the current holder of the phone when they are trying to break through the password. I'm not sure how much good the picture is unless the individual is on a police most wanted poster, but it still sounds cool. My concern is some of the reviews claim the developer isn't responsive to their inquiries, the app frequently shows a Failed To Connect error message claiming that it can't connect to their network, & it doesn't do a deep cleaning. These comments are about 2 years old, but I'm also seeing reviews dated Oct. & Nov. of this year that claim the developer isn't responding to emails & there are a lot of errors since the last update and while they don't specify when that was they imply it has been quite a while. It is currently rated 4-1/2 stars on the Play Store, & about the same at C-NET although C-NET's rating is 2 yrs. old.

How long have you been using it, have you ever had any issues with it, and was the developer responsive to your needs?
    Thanks for your help. Ellen

Best thing is to just watch what you download.
Anti virus will slow down your phone.
