ISO replacement for Clash of Clans

I was enjoying it til I realized how stupid the troops are the way they just lose the battles unnecessarily by beating against walls while cannons kill them. Apparently there is some strategy opened up by this way the game is designed but for me it just detracts from the simulation feel of the game. I don't feel like I'm even controlling monkeys as monkeys would at least notice they are dying and flee.

So anyone know of a similar type game that doesn't have such unrealistically stupid troops? It's a shame as it seems like a really fun game but I need at a minimum an inkling of intelligence in my troops. Thanks!
