    Holy balls I hope this announcement today about Project Treble comes to fruition. If promised it should allow devices to get updated months faster than they are now. Something about system partitions. Sadly, I'm not holding my breath.

    Yeah, I'm with you. The OEMs really need to step up their effort on getting devices patched. This should help speed things up.

    To make matters worse Google seems to have abandoned the mid-range market. If you like a bare bones Android experience then you have very few options. I'm happy with the way my Nexus 5X is kept up to date but wanted more ram and storage. I ended up with a Moto G5 Plus which is a good device for the money but Motorola's commitment to patching is pathetic. I knew that going in though.

    I just can't bring myself to spend $800 to $1000 on a phone no matter how flagshippy it is.
