Don't Spread paranoia... getting a virus on your PC and on your phone are two completely different scenarios.

Really?? ok

Everyone except you and a few others seem to have concerns when it comes to protecting their devices from....virus, spyware, male ware or anything else that takes information or causes their device to not function properly.

I speak from what I know and have witnessed with my own eyes.

Contrary to how you may feel there are those of us who believe in being proactive. I have watched for the last few years as app developers request more access to personal information. Not all make these requests. I pay for my apps to support those that are out there putting in long hours. I draw the line at someone selling my information or using my info or likeness without my permission.

If you believe this is spreading paranoia, then our definition of spreading paranoia and being helpful must differ slightly and you are entitled to your opinion.

I've never had a issue with any virus or malware. And I go to a lot of questionable sights. Every one nows porn sights are a breeding ground for such activities. I've also DL apps from twitter that look cool. Heck DL go products they'll spam the crap out of you. At least we can give props to Google for cracking down on who can spam the notifaction bar. And 99% of users when something goes screwy they cry wolf

You don't know for a fact if the questionable files caused the issue, but I do understand your concern.

Have you ever heard of anyone getting a virus from downloading from the playstore?

True, but he came to me with the first problems after downloading some files from a wrestling site (not a well-known site like WWE). When I looked at his phone, those files were still sitting in the notification shade attempting to download.

I haven't met anyone in person that had a problem with an app from the Play Store, but I do hear news reports that Google had to pull some apps from the Play Store that were mimicking well-known apps but were actually malware. I doubt that all of the recent fake BBM apps were just put there for fun.

this is what's out there and someone can surreptitiously install it on your phone and you won't even know it without an app like Lookout -

Secret SMS Replicator

how's that for common sense? arrogance can get you killed.

If someone physically steals your phone and has access to it (bypasses any lockscreens, etc), a virus isn't your problem.
