Hello,
First thread on here and huge n00b to the world of Samsung and Android, so please go easy on me...
After being an iPhone user for almost 6 years, I thought I'd switch to a Samsung Galaxy as my next phone. It's been just over 24 hours and I'm not sure if I'm starting to regret it as I've just got what I think is a virus!!
I went and bought it last night, charged it, started it up, and downloaded my usual apps: Pinterest, Twitter, 9gag, Instagram, ... but just now I've gone on the Chrome app (which came already installed on the phone) to browse dailymail.co.uk and a box popped up saying:-
" The page at com-mobile.org says:
Download Cool Apps, Games, Ringtones, and Wallpapers with Mobogenie! Click Ok and Install Now! "
Then there are two options. Cancel and Ok. So I click on Cancel. Also worth nothing that clicking anywhere outside of this box doesn't do anything so you have to select an option.
It goes away for about 3 seconds, and then another box pops up!
" The page at appdownloader.info says:
Possible virus detected! Initiating virus scan.
Click OK to start the scan now! "
This time, no Cancel option.
Again, I tried to click outside of the box but nothing happens, so I closed Chrome, re-opened it, but it was still there. Then I went to the Application Manager under Settings, selected Chrome and clicked "Clear Data".
Opened Chrome again, started browsing again, and up came the first box again.
What the hell? I didn't know Android phones could get viruses, malware and spam!!
If I knew that I honestly would not have bought it because I'm not very techy and patient for things likes this. I never ever had any kind of problem with my iPhone/s over the years other than handsets becoming quite slow due to OS updates.
So, please help. What do I do? How can I find out where this spam or virus or whatever it is is coming from? And how can i get rid of it?!
EDIT: The exact same scenario happens when I use the Internet app that came with the phone too.
Please help. I love everything about this phone and am gutted that it's taken no time at all for it to get a problem
