i got mine today, so im pretty fresh and green aswell however, if any helpful soul see our cries for help,
im running
Win 7 32-bit, downloaded kies and set my device as following..
Settings –> Applications— > Development— > USB Debugging.

then i shuld be ready to rumble with SWM and gogo arp´s??

ps. what about the other settings like,
Settings –> Applications— > non-market apps? -what?
Settings –> Applications— > Development— > fake locations? -whay?

help and there shall be Cake!

Edit: used the win installer package for Swn
"C:\AC_SWM\AC_SWM.exe"
"run as admin - compability xp / vista"

yeah i sorted it and everything works flawless,
enabled all of those above and re-installed Kies Followed by .Net 4

Stuck on trying to find the usb driver for samsung galaxy s2 on the website!!! Searching in the meantime but if anyone knows you may share if you wish! ^^;;

yeah i had the same trouble,
just run the .net 4 installer, repair your stuff and hope for success
