Rebel II SIM - ATT Flipout on Tmobile - help

Locked on ATT.
Want to use on Tmobile.
Created a Motoblur account via wifi.

Tried two SIM unlock codes that did not work.

I have a Rebel II SIM in it now. Furthest along I got was with firmware 1.3 and mode set to 1.
This boots fine, shows no SIM lock, but signal bars are crossed out.
Go into settings and have it scan networks. It finds ATT and T-mobile.
When I try to connect it tries for a bit, then says that network strength is weak and asks to search again.

I have manually entered an APN, but after entering it, it does not show up in the APN lists, which remains blank??

Do I need to have a data plan for a month to get it to register?

Other ideas?

Not to ask about the obvious, but do you know if you have T-mobile where you live?

Yeah, I get 2-3 bars on the same tmo sim in my unlocked iphone.
I do not have data on my plan but just got it free for 30 days.

what are the correct tmo apn settings for this phone?
I've seen a lot of different posts on it that show different settings.

Everytime I try a new APN and hit save, it disappears and is not saved?

Might have to do with the Rebel SIM. Who did you use to get the unlock code?
