The new header layout is a regression

I find it difficult to navigate between top forum posts and between other mobile nations site. Even to navigate properly in AC, I have to go iMore and then click the AC drop down to go to another post. I don´t like this redesign.

It is annoying. What I do is click on the forum I want to read. If I see a topic I want to read I click on it. In order to see the most recent posts I hit end on my keyboard. this takes me to the end of the posts. I then tab back up to get to the most recent posts (new posts). If I do it your way and tab down from the top I have to wade through all of the posts I have already read. My way makes more sense. But that's when I keep having the problem with the headers popping up again. It is annoying! And this is the only site out of many that I read daily that is designed this way. I can honestly tell you that I am at the point of just logging out and not coming back. I can get my Android information from other sites. You have asked for our feedback but fail to take any action on any of it as far as I can see. The new layout is a regression.

I think you are slightly overreacting. The situation is greatly exaggerated. I haven't had any trouble whatsoever with the new navigation bar. I think we can hold off longer for the upcoming website redesign.

This is exactly what I do on when logged into the AC website on my laptop. Yes, the header reappears when paging back up to get to the most recent post. But to me, the header is pretty small--it takes up maybe 3 lines. Do you find that intolerable? Or is it taking up much more relative space on your screen? I use a 15.6" laptop as well as an 11.6" Chromebook, and haven't found it particularly intrusive. But that's just me.

This is your opinion. To me it is annoying and not exaggerated at all. If you like it then great. There are a lot of us here that don't. The old style was much better to use. This IS a step backwards. I am logging out and will check back periodically to see if these forums are fixed. But for me I am done here.

Yes. I find it intolerable. We need a way to switch it off if the admins want to keep it there. That way those of us that find it annoying can turn it off. And those who think I am exaggerating can leave it be. For now I am out of here until it's fixed.

Sorry to see you go!

Slow , slow, slow..on a Samsung 10.1 tablet and on Nexus 5 both with Chrome.

Pop up ads are really intrusive.

So the ONLY way to visit this site is with an app!!????

The navbar does a beautiful job of placing nearly invisible link fields above the displayed content because it was never properly tested on mobile devices. I have lost many posts to this and had to redo them. The people that spend $600 on phones and then come here to discuss them, the power users that care about and advocate for new technology, should not have to choose between a broken desktop site and a crippled mobile site. I suppose you also have a limited app but for me personally that does not even bear mentioning, I refuse to install an app for each individual forum site. This is 2014, 95% of all desktop version sites I have visited work perfectly on my phones and tablets.

I'll have another post later tonight with more pictures and less words, the pictures are what matters.

To clarify, when you guys say "stock browser", is that Chrome or something else?

I love AC but god I hate the new header. Persistent headers in webpages (even if they dissapear when you scroll down) are just never a good idea. It feels like a constant not removable or blockable popup ad....

Anyway, the header doesn't work properly on an iPad air. When I try to browse the forums on my ipad and pinch to zoom the menu items "News, Apps, Devices" etc. just get squished into the viewing area of the screen and obscure text i'm trying to read. Right now as I'm typing this the header is about a 3rd of the way down the screen obscuring the 2nd to last post. Please fix or just let us get rid of it!

@Synycalwon - not sure if the tech team has looked for any compatibility bugs with AOSP or not, but I'll send this note along. Before, during, and after launch of the new header they've had a long laundry list of items to take care of. Thankfully, most of these items have been resolved.

The team (and myself) may have some more questions for you on this, so do feel free to email me direct (my email is below) and we'll see if we can get this sorted for you.

In the meantime... Chrome works wonderfully on any Android device I've tried. No issues at all. You might try clearing your cookies, history, etc. to force load the latest site files on your device.

@Synycalwon - probably the best thing to do at this point is contact me direct via email. My address is below. Just bullet point the exact issues you're having in as much detail as possible. Screenshots would be extremely helpful as well. We have a wide range of devices to test on, so hopefully we'll be able to figure out what's going on and fix the problems you're having.

Thanks again James. My apologies for seeming to go back and forth. But to be honest, at this point I'm reserved to just use my AOSP based browser and deal with the header issues. I've already spent enough of my own time troubleshooting and posting my results. So again not sure what else I can e-mail you that I already haven't posted here. At this point, I'm going to leave the ball in your (and the tech team's) court to work on the issues and hopefully figure them out. If I can provide any more info, please contact me. :)

Sounds good to me. I appreciate the patience and understanding!

I didn't have the issue today, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this is now fixed.

Jim,

Post a screenshot to illustrate the issue, and I can pass on to the tech team. They're working on a number of improvements to the header this week, so if I can get to them soon, I'm sure they'll take a look.

Thanks!

This is getting old. I have been reporting this same problem here and on Connectedly since both formats first changed last June. You have asked for and I have provided screenshots since then. Please see this related thread: http://forums.androidcentral.com/an...ack-help/398614-shiny-new-website-format.html and this Connectedly thread with my screenshots in post #11: App Bugs - Connectedly Forum. You even acknowledged it and reproduced it in your own screenshot in post #12 of that thread.

James, any chance an option can be added to our account settings where we can disable the header bar's hide/unhide behavior as you scroll? More often than not it ends up getting in my way as I try to use the site and I have to scroll again to get rid of it. Sometimes it pops in so fast with just a little bit of scrolling, I end up inadvertently clicking something on it taking me away from a page I was trying to post in. It's VERY annoying and counterproductive! :(

I'll pass this on to our design and tech team to see if that's something we can do. No promises, but sending along now! :)

Jim,

Thanks for your persistence! I'm sure you can appreciate the amount of work our tech team has to take on, and they obviously have to prioritize to get things done. I'm sending along your screens, details and more to the team again right now.

Thanks for your patience!

BTW, do not hesitate to contact me direct on issues like this. Might have a few questions for you in regards to the issue, so a conversation wouldn't hurt. I'll drop you a note.
