Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 Won't Load, but Won't Turn Off

Last night, my Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 refused to load beyond the Samsung splash screen and displayed goofy, pixilated colors that were unreadable, but the tab also wouldn't turn off. Today, it's stuck in an endless loop of shutting off, then immediately starting back up to the splash screen, then starting the loop all over again. Since I couldn't turn it off, I let the battery drain to nothing. I'm now attempting to charge it back up, but I'm afraid it's going to do the same thing again when I try to power it back up. Has anyone else experienced this?

Any chance it was trying to apply an update while rooted or otherwise modded?
