HTC EVO 4G - Infinite loop

[AC Question]

I realize this is an older thread, but I have read through and tried the options in this thread:

and yet the phone still loops. A couple of questions I have:
-Does having the SD card in/out matter when trying the reboot?
-What info is auto-saved on the SD card? Contacts? Pictures? (this is what matters most)
-Do I HAVE to do a factory reset?

I'm stumped and REALLY don't want to factory re-set the phone again.... this is the 3rd time I'm having issues with this phone Looping.
